James Pyo , Portfolio Manager, joins New Catalyst with over a decade of relevant experience in the asset management industry. Most recently, he was a Director atWafra Inc. , where he focused on investing in and structuring strategic partnership mandates, completing and managing GP seeding and GP stake investments in asset management businesses, GP financings, private equity secondary transactions, co-investments, and primary fund commitments. James has deep experience in sourcing, valuation, diligence, structuring, negotiation, and execution of investments, as well as general partner value creation services. Before Wafra, James was an Associate General Counsel atMillennium Management, LLC , handling various fund formation and management company matters. He began his career atDavis Polk & Wardwell LLP as an associate in its investment management group. He holds a JD fromCornell Law School and an AB in Physics and Philosophy fromDartmouth College . -
Ivaldo Basso , Operating Partner, brings over 30 years of experience in the alternative investments industry and specializes in firm infrastructure development, vendor evaluation, and ongoing operational due diligence monitoring. Previously, Ivaldo served as Chief Financial Officer and Head of Operational Due Diligence at GCM Grosvenor. In recent years, Ivaldo has worked as an independent consultant, assisting alternative investment firms with launches and helping them transform their operational infrastructure to achieve industrial-strength performance. In his role at New Catalyst, Ivaldo will help alternative investment managers develop and enhance their operational frameworks. Ivaldo holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting fromNorthern Illinois University . -
Beth Rahn , Operating Partner, is a 15+-year private investments executive, having spent her career as a private markets fundraiser. She is the Founder & Managing Partner ofNew Era Advisors , a fundraising advisory firm focused on providing fund placement services to emerging and diverse investment managers in the private markets. In her role with New Catalyst, Beth will support alternative investment managers in capital formation and distribution. Prior to launchingNew Era Advisors , Beth led fundraising and investor relations as Head ofFamily Capital atMcNally Capital , a private equity buyout firm. At McNally, Beth raised capital for direct investments as an independent sponsor and led the launch and capital raise of McNally’s inaugural committed buyout fund, including raising co-investment capital alongside the fund. She also served on McNally's Investment Committee. Before joining McNally, Beth worked in investor relations atSterling Partners , a small and middle-market private equity firm. Beth holds an MBA from theKellogg School of Management and a BS in Finance and Marketing from theUniversity of Illinois . She is an active member of the Private Equity Women Investor Network (PEWIN) and serves on its Mid-Atlantic Events Committee.
