CHANGE TO BOARD MEMBERSHIP

28 September 2020

After more than five years' service, Crawford Gillies has confirmed he will step down from the SSE Board on 30 September.

Crawford joined the SSE as a non-Executive Director in June 2015 and, as well as being SSE's Senior Independent Director, has played a key role on the Audit, Nomination, Remuneration and Energy Markets Risk committees, in addition to making a valuable contribution to the board.

Crawford will be succeeded as Senior Independent Director by Tony Cocker, who joined the SSE Board as a non-Executive Director in May 2018. Tony has a wealth of experience in energy and utilities both through his executive career with Powergen and EON, and more recently as Chairman of Affinity Water and Infinis. He currently chairs SSE's Energy Markets Risk Committee.

After Crawford's departure, the Board of SSE plc will comprise the Chair, three Executive Directors and seven non-Executive Directors.

Crawford Gillies said:

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the SSE Board and I'm proud of the significant strategic progress the company has made during the last five years.  The remaining Board members and senior management team are well placed to build on this progress and achieve the company's vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world."

Richard Gillingwater, Chair of SSE, said:

"On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Crawford for the significant expertise, counsel and independent challenge he has brought to bear during his tenure. His strategic thinking and commercial acumen have left their mark on many of our discussions and decisions. He leaves with our very best wishes for the future."
